U2 Items and Raw Materials

 Major Rocks & Fossil Fuels

Once again, we recapped our knowledge on the major rocks in our earth's crust and discussed the formation of fossil fuels and which layers of rocks they could be found in.
But, why are we emphasizing fossil fuels?
"...it's okay if they run out because I'll just use my electronics!"

Brainstorming what oil, coal and gas are used for we then looked at our daily lives and where we may be using these fossil fuels. The Grade Threes soon realized their dependency on nonrenewable fossil fuels. Looking at the size of our earth and the amount of fossil fuels found in our earth's crust as it currently is...how many years do you think we have left of fossil fuels?
" ...an infinite amount of years"
" ...maybe, 500years"
" ...I don't know, like 1,000 years"
" ...mmm, I agree with 10,000 years"
" ...I think 12 years"
🌏🌎🌍
With that, the grade threes started their next project. They had to select an item, any item, and trace back the manufacturing process of this item, all the way back to its raw material/s stage.

During English, we looked at the past tense of words and practiced using them in sentences. We also tried following instructions independently, then got into the Christmas spirit by researching and sharing short Christmas poems.
✍
In Mathematics,
focusing on the metric units for length we honed in on measurement conversions and its equivalents. We also had fun with some symmetry and angles by creating origami and cut-out snowflakes.
Stay tuned for next week and all the cool things we get up to!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
